Take Action: Urge Congress to Pass the Affordable Connectivity Program Extension Act. More than 23 million U.S. households are enrolled in the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP)—including many HUD-assisted older adult households, thanks to the work of housing providers who supported ACP enrollment among residents. Without congressional action to extend the program funding, the ACP will stop enrolling new eligible households in early February and will run out of funds to support currently enrolled households in April, 2024. LeadingAge is asking you to call on Congress to provide additional funding for the ACP by enacting the Affordable Connectivity Program Extension Act (S. 3565 / H.R. 6929). The bi-partisan, bicameral bill would provide $7 billion to keep the Federal Communications Commission program running through 2024. Members can also keep up with the latest on internet access in affordable senior housing and get involved in the LeadingAge internet connectivity workgroup.

LeadingAge Supports Improving Housing Stability. LeadingAge commented in support of HUD’s December 1 proposed rule, “30-Day Notification Requirement Prior to Termination of Lease for Nonpayment of Rent,” which would require 30-day notifications to HUD-assisted residents prior to lease terminations for nonpayment of rent. The proposed rule formalizes and extends a policy temporarily in place related to the public health emergency. Read LeadingAge's comments here.

HUD Clarifies Contract Bifurcation for Housing Preservation. On January 31, HUD’s Office of Multifamily Housing Programs published a Housing Notice titled Approval and Processing of Requests to Bifurcate Contracts. The Notice applies to bifurcation requests submitted to HUD on or after February 1, 2024. LeadingAge supports HUD’s housing preservation and asset management flexibility efforts.
